Missionary Mike Hartman was called to serve in Mexico in 1999 when he graduated from the seminary. I asked him to take a few moments to reflect on his work here in Mexico. Following is a brief interview with him. (see below if you’d like another question answered!)
1. What’s your role as missionary in Mexico?My […]

Missionary Mike Hartman recently took a trip to Puebla. While visiting with the congregation there, he was offered a special drink - beet juice!
Shortly after he returned from the visit, he was in downtown Torreón with a seminary student. He saw a stand selling “jugo de caña,” which his student explained was sugar cane juice. […]

“I’m a wanderer,” Carlos once told me, joking about the many moves he’s made in his life. Born in Paraguay but raised in Mexico, he has lived in 7 of its 31 states.
Now a seminary student, Carlos Rosales currently lives in Torreón. While he may not be permanently settled (pastors travel long distances in Mexico […]

Have you ever read a story to a little child? If you have, then you know that “reading a story” usually means reading it 3 or 4 times in a row before the child gets tired of hearing it. And of course, inevitably, the child will be asking to hear it again in […]

We’ve lived in Mexico now for about eight years (technically, Mike’s been here 8 and I’ve been here 7 and 1/2, but that’s another story). We’ve spent our entire life as a married couple in Mexico. Now we’re raising a family here. Along the way, we’ve come to love many things about the life here. […]

The air is festive in Torreón. Streets are being revamped, special concerts have been held, displays are set up in parks - all to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Torreón.
The city began as a railroad stop in 1907. Today, Torreón is a thriving area with a strong economy. Yet it is built in a very […]

Change is in the air at “Cristo Redentor” (Christ Redeemer). Members recently repainted the inside of the church. Instead of white, it is now a salmon color. They are now in the process of painting the outside of the building, which will most likely be a yellow color.
After the paint job, plans are in order […]

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
The youth group at “Cristo Glorificado”(Glorified Christ) in Puebla, Mexico, is a shining example of this verse. Started under the wings of Pastor Carlos Cajas and now shepherded by Pastor Mario Dominguez, this group […]

There are currently two “organists” at the mission “Jesus Pan de Vida” (Jesus Bread of Life) in Torreón, Mexico: Vicar Joel Sutton and myself. We take turns playing the small electric keyboard that belongs to the mission. We both enjoy playing, but there is a problem: we are only here temporarily. Vicar Sutton will return […]
